我不抽菸已經兩年了。

大一那年我學會抽菸，當時的女友大我兩歲，抽維珍尼涼菸。女生纖細的手指夾著長支香菸的樣子，對十八歲的我有著一種從未見過的嫵媚與神秘。我偶爾會和她一起抽菸，但沒有產生依賴，甚至常常一包菸擺了一個月都抽不完。那時候抽菸純粹是一種青少年的廉價情趣，以及對成人世界的窺探。

我真正開始成癮是升上大二之後，那時候幾乎每天去迴聲社鬼混，最初是無法拒絕學長請菸，但時間一久就漸漸自己菸不離手了。吸菸者在學校裡絕對是不受歡迎的少數族群，但這也使得抽菸變成了一種讓自己與眾不同的方式。對我這種玩團的大學生而言，做一些具有輕微社會負面觀感的行為，是構成自身叛逆形象的速成捷徑，簡單講，這樣挺酷的。

迴聲社聚集了不少像我一樣的人，以至於社辦門口總是滿地菸屁股。某年大禮堂進行內部翻新，學校在竣工後所做的第一件事，竟然是砌了一道牆把原本面對大禮堂側面的迴聲社大門封起來，然後在面對成功湖的一側另闢出入口，理由是避免在官蓋雲集的啟用典禮當天，這個髒亂的門口在賓客來往要道上有礙觀瞻。

在這個惡名昭彰、充滿頹廢氣息的社團裡，除了叛逆與酷之外，抽菸也形同一種入會儀式。當還是新鮮人的我跟學長們一起抽菸時，無形間就得到了接納，透過一次又一次吞雲吐霧的動作，我融入了團體，成為他們的一份子。每一年新加入的社員亦然，不少人都嘗試在煙霧裡尋找自己建立人際關係的繩索，和切入組織核心的契機，菜鳥們努力揣摩學長姊教導的方法，使勁地把燃燒後的高溫氣體吸入仍然潔淨的肺葉，豪不猶豫地。因為他們相信，當煙吐出來的同時，自己在這個團體中的社會地位，也將就此改變。

大二結束前，我和抽涼菸的女生分手。自此之後，菸成了我在寂寞時最忠實的陪伴。升大三的暑假，我留在新竹補修，第一次放長假不用回家，也終於從悶熱狹小的學校宿舍搬了出來。學期時人來人往的迴聲社只剩幾個死黨還在，愛怎麼用就怎麼用。對一個才將滿 20 歲的男生來說，這些足以稱得上是夢寐以求的自由。然而，在每個熱鬧喧囂的夜落幕後，剛結束的戀情卻往往將我引入巨大的孤單和虛空裡。Echo 就在這個狀況下組成了。現在回想起來，那是一個極其誨澀卻又極度瘋狂的夏天，混雜著酒精和白長壽的濃烈氣味裡，藏著我青春的印記。

從那年夏天起我就再也離不開菸了，因為它不再只是一種象徵性的存在，而是牢固的心靈連結。它就像是靈魂的第二扇窗，穿過它，心神彷彿能到達另一個與現世隔絕的領域；透過每一次吸吮，那染得焦黃的濾嘴成了靈感湧現的泉水源頭，一個接一個的奇思異想就這麼顯像在眼前的白色煙霧裡。它存在我寫歌的咖啡店裡，練團的斗室之內；點燃在昏暗濕熱的地下社會，明亮冷冽的紐約大街；它啟示我每一個微小的念頭、乖誕的舉措，附著在每一個歡愉與悲傷的縫隙間，記憶與忘卻的孔穴裡；它是我的筆，我的劍，我的思想；它無所不在，它是一切，但我的身體，卻也在一次又一次燃燒的光亮後漸漸失去控制。

我每天都要抽一包菸，但近幾年來，後遺症開始一一浮現。首先是演出時的體能大不如前，肺活量明顯下降，聲音也容易變得沙啞；抵抗力持續衰退，我變得非常容易感冒，而且一旦感冒呼吸道症狀就要持續一個月以上，糟糕的是我還無法停止抽菸；最嚴重的是，我幾乎有一半的日子醒來都頭痛，這讓我想抽更多的菸和喝更多的咖啡，但只是加劇惡性循環。我戒了好幾次，但往往不到一天就失敗，最大的原因是無法專注、無法思考、無法做任何的事，仿佛那些能力都不曾屬於自己，失去了神奇的權杖，所有被賦予的力量也就跟著被剝奪。在這巨大的恐懼面前，我總是選擇了屈服。

直到兩年前，我去看了史汀的演唱會。

演出超乎想像的精彩，但最令我感到訝異的，卻是年逾六十的史汀，近乎不可思議的體能狀況。長達兩個多小時不間斷的節目中，他的演唱和彈奏都極度完美，更不用說那驚人的健美體態。我暗自忖度，如果自己繼續這樣下去，很可能再過幾年，在舞台上就會除了態度之外什麼也不剩，而那曾被我視為心目中最大的悲哀。我告訴自己必須戒菸，不只是為了身體，更是一種責任，為了我熱愛的搖滾樂。

剛開始的三個月非常痛苦，我必須依靠大量的尼古丁替代品才能讓頭腦運作。創作的過程極度難受，以往仰賴菸而湧現的靈感，變得需要使勁地壓榨腦力才能取得，光是想一句歌詞，都可以煩躁到令人崩潰。就這樣一天一天，慢慢的，我撐了下來，在充滿未知與恐懼的漫長時間裡，靜靜等待著，直到某日，我發現自己找回了那遺落已久，但其實不曾消失的思考能力。只是這一次，我不再需要那神奇的權杖。

我開始寫歌時就已經有菸癮了，以致於這麼多年以來，總以為菸能刺激靈感。但其實，不是抽菸能幫助思考，而是因為成癮之後，不抽菸會讓人無法思考。那是一種心理的邏輯謬誤，摧毀意志的終極武器。即便那樣的思考方式所帶來的歡愉感是無法取代的（畢竟它所刺激腦內分泌的是扎扎實實的多巴胺），但它終究是一場與魔鬼的交易。我用兩年幾乎停產的創作空白來重置自己的身體，像是攤還過去預支的債，而現在終於清償完畢，一切歸零、重新開始。

謝謝你陪我走過人生中那些珍貴的風景、難忘的時刻，謝謝你陪我寫下那些歌。我會永遠記得過去的美好，也會珍惜這得來不易的自由。

別了，香菸。不說再見。

Smells like teen spirit

2007年，回聲到中山大學參加揚門樂社的活動，因為一場大雨，原本在西子灣邊的舞台無法演出，同學很不好意思地問我們可否移師到社辦，而我到現在還記得，當我們答應時同學們欣喜若狂的樣子。大夥就在揚門社員的簇擁下，到了位於活動中心的社辦。當天天氣悶熱，且有些人已經因為下雨淋濕，加上狹小的社辦裡要擠好幾十人，一直擠爆到走廊上，整個就是 smells like teen spirit。

演出的歌單我已經不記得了，但想必是少不了巴士底之日和煙硝等曲目，在濕黏的空氣中混雜著汗味、菸味、酒味和各式青春的費落蒙。最特別的印象是，在演唱「傾慕」時，幾乎是全場大合唱，有同學跟我說，他們有好幾個社員翻唱過這首歌，能聽到這首歌的現場是此生無憾。

還有一個很奇妙的巧合。演出的前一晚，我們為了省錢借住在 Shipy 的台南老家，結果出發後小邱才發現 bass 忘了帶。到了中山小邱向揚門的社員借 bass，拿到手時覺得似曾相識，一問之下才知道，這把琴上一個主人是回聲感官駕馭時期的貝斯手正忠，而正忠用那把 bass 錄製了我們的第一張專輯和好多場演出，沒料到多年後在這裡重逢。

那是我生涯前五名熱血的演出吧。

那可能性，我不能給你確切數量

因為前幾天在 回聲樂團(Echo) 板上一篇關於巴士底之日時期的文章，看到了這支多年前的影片。場景是在台灣人權景美園區，由於園區原本是囚禁政治犯的軍監獄，當天下午，我們在已廢棄的監獄內做了一場超小型演出，約二十名觀眾就和我們一起關在牢房裡，唱著巴士底之日。

影片中是傍晚時的第二場演出，在園區的中庭。演出已經結束，而我最後又加演了一首「可能性」。

時光飛逝，好多回憶湧上心頭。影片中的我、春佑和小邱都還稚氣，西皮冠文還在樂團，觀眾裡的音地大帝也還沒有妹圍上來 XD

那些巴士底之日的事

這趟的中南部宣傳行程，又讓我想起好多事。

2007年，回聲發行第二張專輯巴士底之日，和許多樂團一樣，我們只會做音樂，根本不懂所謂行銷宣傳為何物。很幸運的，我們遇到了小樹，他幫我們上了企宣的第一課，因此有了「無所不在的回聲」和「全年百場巡迴」這兩個計畫。但由於沒有經費，加上當時只有我和春佑全職做樂團，實際執行的擔子就落到了我們兩個身上。

宣傳的第一課是：「怎麼上電台？」
一般來說，唱片公司有專職的電台宣傳，獨立發行也可以找專門的人短期接案。電台宣傳的工作內容有：寄送宣傳片、敲訪問通告、帶通告…等等，一般來說和各地電台的DJ或節目企製都有一些認識或交情。但我和春佑對這些一竅不通，連各城市有什麼電台我們都搞不清楚，更不要說認識裡面的人，我們只能和朋友詢問、上網查資料，然後一家一家電台打電話去約「會面」。要先排會面的原因是：這些電台根本不認識你，你必須先有會面的機會、自我介紹，如果DJ們覺得ok，才會真的安排訪問通告給你。

有一個有趣的經驗是，春佑打電話去某電台…
春佑：「您好，這裡是回聲樂團。我們…」
對方：「什麼？火山樂團？」
春佑：「不不，是回聲樂團…」

就這樣我們和各地電台都安排了見面會，全國、HItFM、古都、蘋果線上、Kiss Radio… 台中台南高雄的電台我們幾乎都去拜訪了。一大清早，我們兩個就跳上客運，一路補眠到目的地，再拿著專輯CD和一把木吉他（隨時準備唱一段）去跟電台的DJ們「面試」。那些場景我到現在都印象深刻，我們就這麼走進電台，和幾位陌生的DJ在會議室中坐下來，一首一首地介紹自己的音樂，DJ們大都也很親切，會提出他們的想法和推歌的建議。

記憶最清晰的是台中全國廣播，我們倆在會議室裡，和十來個DJ和企劃同坐一張大桌子，DJ們很nice，但有時也很犀利，我很緊張，但還是鉅細彌遺地介紹了專輯，甚至現場拿吉他唱了一首歌。後來，我們在全國廣播排到了當時最多的通告：三個專訪！包括這趟也有上到節目的DJ亭亭。

宣傳的第二課：「怎麼排表演？」
「全年百場巡迴」，也不是你想唱就唱得到的，還得有地方有活動願意給你唱。因此，每趟與電台的會面後，就是拜訪各地活動單位的時候，其實每個城市都有許多音樂活動在發生，端看你有沒有費心思去尋找機會。除了網路上搜尋，和在地的DJ打聽是最有效的，這是見面會意想不到的收穫。我們找到各地幾位在辦活動的前輩，有些是創意市集，有些是在地政府的藝文活動，這些活動加起來就少說有十多場，而且是在當時 live house 文化才方興未艾的南台灣。結果，雖然我們最後沒有達成百場的目標，但一年下來也走了86場，沒有什麼是不可能的。

更奇妙的緣分是，我們因為《翻滾吧！男孩》導演喵導的介紹，認識了台南全美戲院的吳老闆，並在戲院裡舉辦了兩場利用電影屏幕的大型投影演唱會，還帶著吳老闆一起去了一次春吶。今年春吶演完下台，沒想到吳老闆夫婦就在台下等我們，他說他是特地來墾丁看我們的，因為回聲+春吶是他很難忘的一個回憶，我們開心擁抱，當下真的很感動。這次經過全美戲院沒有時間下來和老闆打聲招呼，但真的好想再回去辦一場演唱會。

照片是在台南遇到正巧是當年「電台見面會巡禮」之一的DJ夏薇，她問我們：「還記不記得你們當年勇闖18樓？我們電台現在換到20樓了。」

現在我們有了更多更專業的夥伴來幫忙，但我從沒忘記當年帶著傻勁幹這些事的原因：身為一個搖滾樂手，我不會為了讓人喜歡而卑躬屈膝，但會用盡全力讓人聽見我們的聲音，當我還想用音樂改變些什麼的時候。

昨天半夜和春佑及MV導演在Google Talk上討論造型，基本上三方的想法都有所出入，因此花了一些時間協調，但也因為這樣仔細看了像Slade、Roxy Music和Bowie等團造型，雖然1970s Glam Rock裝扮總是令我想嘗試看看，但只要想像那些豹紋裝、螢光綠西裝、超大V字露胸上衣套在自己身上，首先會投射到的都是小時候看鑽石舞台裡的R2舞群，而不是什麼華麗搖滾。


心情點播
不是要說ECHO的歌「自導自演」，志傑今天demo給我看他的新作業：INDIEVOX上的KMT電台（跟國民黨無關），一個依據分析所有網站上歌曲所得到「Key, Mood, Tempo」等數據做成的電台，背景還會自動擷取演出者上傳的照片或Google上搜尋到的圖片輪播，非常讚，自動選出的音樂也算精準。我想INDIEVOX很快又會多一個獨步台灣的音樂新服務出現。

以前聽夜光家族，主持人光禹沉穩內斂的聲音，總讓人以為他是個長輩。今天一進錄音室著實出乎我意料之外，雖然外型和想像中差不多，十分文質彬彬的文人氣質，但實在太年輕啦！而且節目中出了許多音樂方面的「難題」，讓我們玩得非常愉快。老實說，其實這才是我們的強項（廢話，我們是搖滾樂團），用唱用彈的有時比用說的容易，今夜的訪問行程實在是充滿了意外的驚喜。


披頭四 艾比路三號的日子 (1/4)
書介。目前只看了四分之一，但光是看到像A Hard’s Night間奏吉他和走音的鋼琴合奏產生的來龍去脈、I Feel Fine開頭的那聲搖滾史上第一次被錄下的吉他feedback等音樂產生的過程，就已讓人興奮不已。好的音樂從不是無中生有，而是來自許許多多想法、試驗、熱情、練習…等事物的總和。能做音樂人真好！

Legacy、不插電、鮮蚵

Legacy
下午到Legacy和舌哥開會。因為，是的，處女空氣的最終站就在Legacy。

不插電
這兩週回聲分別在北中南三地的誠品書店進行不插電演出，首站是明天的高雄夢時代誠品。晚上在頂樓做了個行前彩排，雖然上週才在高雄演了兩場，但依然十分期待明天，尤其每到冬天，木柵連續幾個月細雨綿綿的天氣，都讓我有往南方移動的衝動。

鮮蚵
接著是宵夜時間。秀明路萬壽橋頭的洗車場，晚上會搖身一變為夜遊客的聚集地：白天洗汽車，晚上烤鮮蚵。

每一顆都是肥美的大海滋味！

東門城、新MV與RH4H

新竹東門城
今天在新竹東門城的演出是處女空氣首波巡演的最終站，新竹的冷風依然強勁，但在今夜那是一種返鄉的溫暖氣味。距第一次在這個地方演出已經十多年了，那次滾滾爆竹的海報還是我設計的。台下的面孔不盡相同，然而在舞台上凝望天空時，總讓我想起一路上的種種。

返回台北後立刻到了安和路上的咖啡廳和MV導演開會。下週就要開拍了，自己十分期待，兩首都是這張專輯裡個人十分鐘情的歌曲，這個世界需要多一點的霓虹閃爍。
